Green Thumb Theatre is accepting submissions from performers based in Canada for the role of BELLEVUE in THE MIXOLYDIAN by Ashley Cook, directed by Michelle Olson.
About the show:
Bellevue, an 11-year-old Anishinaabe/Metis girl, is on a journey through the woods. Reconnecting with her culture and language, Bellevue is accompanied by her “imaginary friend”, a shapeshifter named Thomas. Having recently lost her grandfather (Shoom), Bellevue feels out of touch with the stories and words her Shoom used to share. Luckily, with some help from ancestor Nokomis, Bellevue learns that Shoom’s knowledge lives on in her, and there is more to her friend Thomas than meets the eye.
Role to be cast:
Bellevue: An 11-year-old urban Anishinaabe/Métis girl, who talks fast and likes to paint. In The Mixolydian, Bellevue is tasked with bringing a feast plate for her grandfather (Shoom) into the forest. Bellevue is taken on a journey where she faces challenges and confronts her memories with her imaginary friend. Strong comedic and movement abilities are an asset, some singing is required. For this role, we are accepting submissions from self-identifying Indigenous actors.
All characters will be portrayed by adult actors.
