Richmond Cultural Centre

Canada
Artists are invited to submit proposals for a visual art exhibition at the Richmond Cultural Centre’s Upper Rotunda Gallery as part of Black History Month. Organized annually each February since 2016, the exhibition recognizes and honours the legacy, culture and contributions of Black Canadians and their communities. This program is presented by the City of Richmond in partnership with Richmond Black History Month.
Eligibility: Artists who identify as Black, artists of African descent or who are part of the African diaspora with priority to artists living and/or working in Richmond, BC.
Opportunity: Located in the Richmond Cultural Centre, the Upper Rotunda Gallery is a long, curved wall overlooking the main lobby of the building. It is approximately 80 feet long and 6 feet high, equipped with a hanging system. Submissions may include but are not limited to painting, drawing, photography, textile arts, mixed media and digital/media arts. Due to spatial and accessibility requirements, only 3D artworks under 1 foot square may be considered for display cases and protected plinths. The exhibition is open to the public during the Cultural Centre’s hours of operation.
The selected artist will receive an artist fee based on 2025 CARFAC rates ($494/2025). The artist is not required to produce new artworks for the exhibition. Artwork should be prepared and ready to be installed by gallery staff. Additional public program opportunities such as an artist talk or workshop may be considered separately.
